Kirsty Murphy Hughes is Group Sustainability Manager at daa. daa group are the commercial semi-state operators of Dublin and Cork Airports in Ireland, airport retail operators (ARI) and airport management and consulting (daai) spanning 15 countries and more than 20 airports.

Kirsty has over 10 years of operational experience across roles in large multinationals including Diageo, Kerry Foods, Glanbia as well as in consultancy, specialising in data led and customer focused strategy development and implementation. In 2018 Kirsty was able to marry her love for aviation joining daa and ultimately combined her personal passion for sustainability in 2020 to her work, spearheading the first ARI Global ESG strategy which was published in 2021. Kirsty moved into her current dedicated sustainability role that works across daa Group with Dublin and Cork airports, as well as the international business units. Kirsty is the lead of our Climate Positive Culture in daa, making sustainability everyone’s job, offering programmes to every function of the group across all streams of our work of decarbonisation, circularity and healthy local environments as well as leading on data and reporting for the Group Sustainability Team.

Kirsty holds a master’s degree in Psychology from UCC, recently completed an innovation diploma through Trinity College Dublin, and holds qualifications in, GHG accounting, implementation of a circular economy and project management.

Despite being a promising solution, more is required to make sustainable aviation fuel accessible and affordable. Currently, new technologies surrounding the fuel make it risky and experimental, leaving many investors unwilling to finance the industry and therefore the production costs remain high. Discover:
