Competing Priorities:

Safety, Capacity and Resilience vs the Environment

This session will explore the perceived trade-offs between safety, capacity, resilience, and environmental considerations in airport operations. The discussion will focus on which priorities dominate today’s decision-making and how this balance is expected to evolve in the future.

Is it possible to reduce aviation’s carbon footprint while also meeting increasing capacity demand? Should there be challenge to the traditional emphasis on punctuality, and instead focus on a more nuanced approach that places environmental impact first?

Achieving sustainability in airports requires transparent information sharing and collaborative decision-making among all stakeholders. How critical is collaboration and transparency in meeting environmental goals?
Join us for an insightful discussion on navigating the complexities between efficiency, sustainability, and operational priorities in the evolving landscape of airport management.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF):

Opportunities and implications

Despite being a promising solution, more is required to make sustainable aviation fuel accessible and affordable. Currently, new technologies surrounding the fuel make it risky and experimental, leaving many investors unwilling to finance the industry and therefore the production costs remain high. Discover:

  • Current production capacity and availability
  • How airports can be involved in this transition
  • Policies and regulations needed to incentivise investments in SAFs and accelerate deployment
