Security Session

Small Airport Track: 11:00 - 11:30

21st October 2020 Day 2 – Small-mid size airports

Identifying security solutions for small-mid size airports

Many of the current systems and solutions are designed with the mega-airport in mind. Aviation security is, however, a challenge for all airports, whether large or small. This presentation will cover considerations for purchasing security technology on a smaller budget.

Aviation security training and technological advancement – don’t forget the human factor

The pace of change of technology in today’s screening checkpoint is rapid however, they all have one element in common: Despite increasing automation we still require human input for most parts of the process, especially alarm resolution. A brief dive into some of the considerations that need to be taken into account for aviation security training and technology deployment for the future checkpoint, to give security staff the ability to carry out their role to the best of their capability.

Speaker: Nina Smith, Head of Training & Human Factors, UK Civil Aviation Authority

Integral role the development of an effective Security Management System (SeMS) plays in fostering a positive security culture

12:30 - 13:00

21st October 2020 Day 2 - Security

Airport case study: Creating an effective security culture

This session will detail an airport who has created an effective security culture in collaboration with stakeholders. They have also worked on encouraging all members of staff to take personal responsibility for ensuring the airport remains secure. It will outline the process which has been undertaken to instil changes in behaviour.

21st October 2020 Day 2 - Security

Providing an update on IATA’s One ID initiative

This session will focus on the progress being made on IATA’s One ID initiative aimed at addressing seamless movement of passengers at airports. It will aim to answer some of the challenges around the introduction, how to reduce the documentation and identification time taken at each touchpoint, how to move more activities off site, what technology investments can optimise resources and how to improve data-sharing between multiple stakeholders in a secure way. An important issue for One ID is the harmonised utilisation of such technologies across the global air industry stakeholders.

One ID will enable improvements in border, aviation and airport infrastructure security. It will help combat human trafficking and other cross-border criminal activities by reducing the possibility for individuals to cross borders under a false identity.

21st October 2020 Day 2 - Security

Case study: Smart security points reducing queues and improving the passenger experience

This session will provide a case study on an airport who has introduced a fully integrated international security screening system. It will cover the implementation challenges and benefits regarding the new screening checkpoints incorporating eGates, smart security lanes, new CT body scanners, biometrics and automated tray return systems.

15:00 - 15:45

21st October 2020 Day 2 - Security

Airport case study: New security innovations

This case study will look at all the challenges of building a new airport or a new terminal building and incorporating security considerations, as well as using the opportunity to invest in new security technology and associated protection suites.

21st October 2020 Day 2 - Security

Innovation labs - Thinking differently about security solutions

Increasing numbers of airports are introducing innovation centres. This session will share insights, views and future security innovations that will potentially be implemented over the next five to 10 years, covering new products, services and initiatives that they are testing. The session will focus on innovations which will help support the security function, reduce costs and enhance passenger experience.

Panel discussion on the insider threat - mitigation strategies

Any individual with inside knowledge or access has the potential to harm an organisation and its people. This session will provide different experiences from airports around the world on how to address the potential threats, identifying and implementing a range of measures to use to ensure your airport is as secure as possible. It will also cover making sure that employees are aware of the insider threat as they play a key role in addressing this risk.

10:30 - 11:00

20th October 2020 Day 1 - Security

Checkpoint of the future

This session will provide detail on how checkpoints are set to change significantly over the next five years. With the projected significant increase in passenger numbers the existing screening process is not viable. Future security requires seamless flow, which needs broader consideration. The future is likely to involve a ‘checkpoint-less’ security operation. There is also likely to be a change in the baggage journey from home to destination, which requires a mindset change.

20th October 2020 Day 1 - Security

Drones: Risk or opportunity

This session will cover whether drones are your friend or foe.
It will provide a roadmap for minimising business disruption but also look at how autonomous drones can be integrated into airport security operations; reducing costs and risk.

20th October 2020 Day 1 - Security

Panel discussion: Addressing landside security threats and mitigation approaches

This panel discussion will cover the technology available to mitigate landside threats and discuss potential investment in behavioural detection officers. They will cover the challenge faced in the pre-screening area and steps taken at airports to address this. The panel will also discuss the variety of different types of detection equipment being introduced, for example, technology able to detect different shapes and forms and technology able to identify explosive material. These are both areas regulators are starting to explore further.
