Ian Taylor is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK). After 31 years with consultant Arup, latterly as its Global Aviation Business Leader, Ian recently joined Birmingham Airport as Development and Construction Director.
Ian has more than 40 years’ experience in the planning and design of transportation infrastructure and has lived and worked in the UK, the USA and Asia. During his 31 years with Arup, he worked on several high-profile transportation projects around the world, in both the rail and aviation sectors.
Ian led the planning and design of the then new Hong Kong International Airport Rail station and Ground Transportation Centre and later led the Arup team delivering the Midfield Concourse project.
In 2001, Ian was a core member of the leadership team delivering Preliminary Engineering for the full length of the Second Avenue Subway in Manhattan.
After leading the planning and design of Dublin’s Terminal 2, Ian returned to Asia, leading Arup’s work on Changi Airport T5, Taipei’s T3 and Mactan Cebu’s T2.
Moving back to the UK in 2019, Ian led Arup’s work on the London Luton Airport Development Consent Order, paving the way for significant growth of that airport.
